American Catholics made a deal with liberalism. It hasn’t worked out - from the Catholic Herald

Brandon McGinley, in the Catholic Herald, writes:-

"The idea, that is, has been that the Church can be strategically liberal while families remain nodes of illiberalism – of hierarchy, of authority, of communalism, of quasi-public religiosity. We ask merely for an equal voice in a neutral public square, and parents are still supposed to convince children that the Church is one, holy, apostolic, and catholic. We ask for a deeply individualistic and relativistic kind of “religious liberty,” but parents are still supposed to enforce the duties imposed by Baptism as unchosen and binding. We beg the civil authority not to enforce a comprehensive vision of the good, but parents are still supposed to teach that the Church has just such a vision – that She is that vision.

But of course this catechesis hasn’t trickled down at all; instead, families have been almost exclusively catechized by liberalism – and more so the farther they are from networks of academic and socioeconomic privilege. Not only has the domestic church been ravaged by the liberal privatization of religion, but the very idea of the domestic church—the idea of the family as place of communal religious duties, where the life of faith should infuse every moment of every day – has been rendered incomprehensible. To actually live as if what we affirm at Mass is true and binding – not just the hot-button moral issues but the personal and social sovereignty of Christ – is considered unbalanced, anti-social, and, worst of all, illiberal....So, why not change course? Why not assert reality – the cosmic hierarchy, the Church Triumphant, the sovereignty of Christ, the necessity of grace, and the personal and political implications of all of these? On its own terms, the strategic compromise with liberalism has failed – not to mention the collateral damage. It’s at least as likely as not that an uncompromising and deeply-rooted orthodoxy will meet with more practical success than a selective liberalization driven by focus groups and partisan politics."

REPOST - June is the Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Heart

Taken from https://youngcatholicadults-latestnews.blogspot.com/search?q=sacred+heart in 2017:-

From https://www.catholicculture.org/

"Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. The month of June is set apart for devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. "From among all the proofs of the infinite goodness of our Savior none stands out more prominently than the fact that, as the love of the faithful grew cold, He, Divine Love Itself, gave Himself to us to be honored by a very special devotion and that the rich treasury of the Church was thrown wide open in the interests of that devotion." These words of Pope Pius XI refer to the Sacred Heart Devotion, which in its present form dates from the revelations given to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673-75.

The devotion consists in the divine worship of the human heart of Christ, which is united to His divinity and which is a symbol of His love for us. The aim of the devotion is to make our Lord king over our hearts by prompting them to return love to Him (especially through an act of consecration by which we offer to the Heart of Jesus both ourselves and all that belongs to us) and to make reparation for our ingratitude to God.

Prayer:

INVOCATION

O Heart of love, I put all my trust in Thee; for I fear all things from my own weakness, but I hope for all things from Thy goodness. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

PRAYER TO THE SACRED HEART

Devotion to the Sacred Heart was the characteristic note of the piety of Saint Gertrude the Great (1256-1302), Benedictine nun and renowned mystic. She was, in fact, the first great exponent of devotion to the Sacred Heart. In our efforts to honor the Heart of Jesus we have this prayer as a model for our own: Hail! O Sacred Heart of Jesus, living and quickening source of eternal life, infinite treasure of the Divinity, and burning furnace of divine love. Thou art my refuge and my sanctuary, 0 my amiable Savior. Consume my heart with that burning fire with which Thine is ever inflamed. Pour down on my soul those graces which flow from Thy love, and let my heart be so united with Thine, that our wills may be one, and mine in all things be conformed to Thine. May Thy divine will be equally the standard and rule of all my desires and of all my actions. Amen. Saint Gertrude

FOR THE CHURCH

O most holy Heart of Jesus, shower Thy blessings in abundant measure upon Thy holy Church, upon the Supreme Pontiff and upon all the clergy; to the just grant perseverance; convert sinners; enlighten unbelievers; bless our relations, friends and benefactors; assist the dying; deliver the holy souls in purgatory; and extend over all hearts the sweet empire of Thy love. Amen.

A PRAYER OF TRUST

O God, who didst in wondrous manner reveal to the virgin, Margaret Mary, the unsearchable riches of Thy Heart, grant that loving Thee, after her example, in all things and above all things, we may in Thy Heart find our abiding home. Roman Missal

ACT OF LOVE

Reveal Thy Sacred Heart to me, O Jesus, and show me Its attractions. Unite me to It for ever. Grant that all my aspirations and all the beats of my heart, which cease not even while I sleep, may be a testimonial to Thee of my love for Thee and may say to Thee: Yes, Lord, I am all Thine; pledge of my allegiance to Thee rests ever in my heart will never cease to be there. Do Thou accept the slight amount of good that I do and be graciously pleased to repair all m] wrong-doing; so that I may be able to bless Thee in time and in eternity. Amen. Cardinal Merry del Val

MEMORARE TO THE SACRED HEART

Remember, O most sweet Jesus, that no one who has had recourse to Thy Sacred Heart, implored its help, or sought it mercy was ever abandoned. Encouraged with confidence, O tenderest of hearts, we present ourselves before Thee, crushes beneath the weight of our sins. In our misery, O Sacred Hear. of Jesus, despise not our simple prayers, but mercifully grant our requests."

Our Lady of Fatima Procession at Douai Abbey

REPOST - The Miracle of the Sun - When Athiests were Converted on the Spot

On October 13th 1917, the greatest miracle of modern times took place at Fatima in Portugal, 70,000 people saw the "Miracle of the Sun." It was so incredible, even athiests could not deny it. The secular Lisbon paper O Dia, indicates:

"The silver sun … was seen to whirl and turn in the circle of broken clouds. A cry went up from every mouth and the people fell on their knees on the muddy ground. … The light turned a beautiful blue as if it had come through the stained-glass windows of a cathedral and spread itself over the people who knelt with outstretched hands. The blue faded slowly and then the light seemed to pass through yellow glass. … People wept and prayed with uncovered heads in the presence of the miracle they had awaited. The seconds seemed like hours, so vivid were they."

Donel Foley has an excellent detailed article on this miracle at the Catholic Herald, see:-

Regina Coeli! He is Risen Alleluia! Happy Easter Sunday

The Regina Cæli or Regina Cœli ("Queen of Heaven", pronounced [reˈdʒina ˈtʃeli] in Ecclesiastical Latin) is an ancient Latin Marian Hymn of the Christian Church.
It is one of the four seasonal Marian antiphons of the Blessed Virgin Mary, prescribed to be sung or recited in the Liturgy of the Hours at the conclusion of the last of the hours to be prayed in common that day, typically night prayer (Compline or Vespers). Any one of these four or of other suitable antiphons may now be sung at any time of the liturgical year. The Regina Coeli is sung or recited in place of the Angelus during the Easter season, from Easter Sunday until Pentecost.(Source Wiki)

Donations Urgently Needed for Young Catholic Adult Events

Young Catholic Adults are grateful for all support – both spiritual and financial – which we receive from around the world. YCA promotes traditional Catholic catechesis, beauty in the liturgy (EF form  - where possible) and a return to solid Catholic devotions, such as the Rosary and Marian Devotion etc.

Please consider making a donation to support us. We need money for deposits, Priestly stipends, catechetical materials,  Priests travel expenses, hosting websites and postage costs - in order to organise local events, the main national weekend and the Web apostolate.

It is hoped that an all age organisation, which works in conjunction with YCA, will start soon, but this will depend on funding.

Archeological Excavation Proves Existence of Old Testament King Josiah

From Scott Hahn (from Facebook):-

“A recent discovery at an archeological excavation in Israel provides evidence to the historicity of a Biblical king that has never been corroborated before.

And it was beneath a parking lot.
The artifact is a rare clay seal with the name of a court official of King Josiah, who figures prominently in the Old Testament of the Bible.
It was discovered at an archeological site believed to be ancient ruins of a site that was burnt down by the Babylonians during the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 B.C.

The seal contains the name of Nathan-Melech, who was a high-ranking official in Josiah's kingdom, according to the announcement from the Israel Antiquities Authority.
The seal reads, "'[belonging] to Nathan-Melech, Servant of the King," referring to Josiah. The name is mentioned only once in the Bible, in the second book of Kings.

"The ongoing archeological excavations at the City of David continue to prove that ancient Jerusalem is no longer just a matter of faith, but also a matter of fact," said Doron Spielman, the vice president of the City of David Foundation.”

Do Today’s Catholic Adults Know As Much About Their Faith As Catholic Children Of The Past?

When the Convent of Poor Clares* in Woodchester, Gloucestershire, was due to close in May 2011, parishioners and friends of the nuns were invited to take books and religious artefacts to save them from being destroyed. Amongst the many old books I acquired, I found a small homemade book by a nun called Sister Francis Agnes. Within the book, I discovered a rare copy of an old, 12-page Syllabus of Religious Instruction in the Schools of The Diocese of Clifton which piqued my interest: I was fascinated to find out what I could have learnt about my faith had I been born two or three generations earlier. It is not a catechism but a scheme of work.

Many Catholics I know have the desire to preserve the treasures of their Catholic heritage that have been brushed under the carpet during the last 50 years by those wanting an ‘easier’ life, suppressing the more ‘difficult’ truths of the Faith. Reading through the syllabus, I immediately realised that my knowledge of the Faith was sadly less than that of a 13 year old of the 1930s/1940s, which is when the syllabus was published under Bishop William Lee. It uses the Catechism Of Christian Doctrine For Infants And Standard I, followed by The Explanatory Catechism Of Christian Doctrine

And so, before information such as this might be lost, it would be a good thing to promote it far and wide. Please pass it on to whomever you think might be interested so that standards of Catholic education might be helped to be raised, and the knowledge passed on to future generations.

[*pre-1970s it was known as the Franciscan Convent, Woodchester]
